Classic sounds from the Grateful Dead:

Dire Wolf (3,4 MB) (27/04/1971)
From a concert at the Fillmore East.

Throwing Stones (7,7 MB) (22/07/84) a song from the eighties, words by John P. Barlow and music by Bob Weir

Aiko Aiko (5,5 MB) (22/07/84 ) based on a nursery rhyme from New Orleans, thos song was a hit for "The Dixie Cups" in 1965. Based on africa traditions, bboth int hte call and response structure, and in the strange and fascinating lyrics::

Hey now - Hey now
Iko Iko all day,
jockomo feeno na na nay,
jockomo feena nay

Man Smart - Woman Smarter (5,3 MB) 22.07.1984
This song was a hit for Harry Belafonte back in the 1950s. This version has different lyrics from the Belafonte-versions, I don't know where Jerry picked them up, but it is well known that RCA and Belafonte cleaned up the lyrics substantially, so this may be closer to the Trinidadian original:

A statement from the Grateful Dead

The Grateful Dead and our managing organizations have long encouraged the purely non-commercial exchange of music taped at our concerts and those of our individual members.
That a new medium of distribution has arisen - digital audio files being traded over the Internet - does not change our policy in this regard.
Our stipulations regarding digital distribution are merely extensions of those long-standing principles and they are as follows:

No commercial gain may be sought by websites offering digital files of our music, whether through advertising, exploiting databases compiled from their traffic, or any other means.
All participants in such digital exchange acknowledge and respect the copyrights of the performers, writers and publishers of the music.
This notice should be clearly posted on all sites engaged in this activity.
We reserve the ability to withdraw our sanction of non-commercial digital music should circumstances arise that compromise our ability to protect and steward the integrity of our work.
